Create Before You Consume

Today I share with you a second tip from Ten Self-Care Tips: Looking for Sane Practices in Times of Insane Demands. Tip #2 is: Create before you consume.

Just that simple. When you get up in the morning, resist the temptation to turn on your phone, to scroll Facebook or Instagram. Don’t check your email. Otherwise, you’re inviting others outside of you to set the tone for your day, to tell you what to do, to guide you. But they don’t know you – not that true self.  If we’re not careful, we consume so much that we get bloated and leave no room for our creative expressions, for contributing our life essence to the world. Sometimes while scrolling social media, we let our desires and priorities go to a back burner – where they sit and dry out, or maybe even burn away.

So make those first moments of your day count for you – for your priorities. Your purpose. Your needs. Once you’ve had time to center your thoughts and enjoy what you create from your inner being—like meditating, writing, painting, stretching and exercising, or whatever you’re moved to do, then you can move on to check out what is going on around you.
