Can the “Can’t”
You’ve likely been told to never say “I can’t.” You may have even said it to others. Yet it still falls out of your mouth all of the time, doesn’t it? It may be challenging to eliminate those words from your life. So instead of focusing on getting rid of that phrase, just replace it. Replace it with “I won’t.”
Why? Can’t indicates that you are incapable. That you are lacking in some way – skill, motivation, know-how. In using that word, you are a victim. You are powerless. On the other hand, Won’t puts you in the power position. You’re not a victim. It’s your decision whether you will or will not do something. For instance, rather than “I can’t afford to buy that car,” say “I won’t use my money to buy that car.” Instead of “I can’t lose weight,” say “I won’t lose weight.”
Once you rephrase and say them aloud, you’ll feel a shift in the universe . . . well, just inside of you really. Inside of your universe. You’ll feel the power.
Give it a try. Write 5 – 10 I can’t statements. Maybe some that you hear yourself saying often. Then rewrite them with I won’t instead. Say them aloud.
Now how do you feel? Ready to take on some challenges? Motivated to go out and do? Do you feel a shift in perspective? You know, this is 2023 and you can do anything. This is your year.
I really like this post and what you shared. I will keep that in mind in the future when those words pop into my mind our come out of my mouth.
I’ve found it’s a little action that can make a big difference.
