Be Still
“Looks like I’ve been AWOL for a while, Lord,” I say as I look at how much time has passed since my last written conversation. The truth is that’s we’ve still been doing quite a bit of talking . . . just not the kind to write down for others to hear and know. It’s been more personal, more private of nature. But today I feel the yearning to just chat.
“I like to chat with you,” says the Lord. “You are a joy to me. You reach and you stretch to touch those things you do not know – oftentimes even reaching beyond the low hanging fruit to access something a bit higher, a bit more seemingly out of reach.”
“Glad that you’ve noticed, Lord.”
“So today let me give you something to challenge you,” he says.
Now I’ve done it, I think to myself. Brace for impact, is the phrase that comes to mind.
“Why do you go to the negative? I say I want to challenge you and you go right to plane crash. What’s up with that?” the Lord chastises.
“Habit,” I say in response. No defense. No reason, for it has not even been reasoned out. Just a quick off-the-cuff remark. I seem to do that a lot.
“Well moving on,” he continues, “I want you to know that there are things you have desired, things you have believed for, that have already come. That already are. You just do not yet see them because you are faced forward looking to the future, missing what is now.”
That takes my breath away. Profound it is.
“Today, look at only today,” he continues. “Forget tomorrow and what you’re going to do or what will be. Let that go. Today, just be still and know. Be still.”
“Today. So be it, Lord.”
I remember hearing, we cannot change the past, and we don’t know the future. All we have is this moment in time. Amen, be still.
Love how you brought this together Cathay, and Lisa the talk from Richard Rohr is precious.
Hugs to you both!
So true, Marjorie.
And yes, Lisa, thanks for the reference to Richard Rohr’s statement. I love that “Be still and know that I am God” broken down. I have sometimes spoken that in meditation the way Rohr has shown
.
Be still. One of my favorite bible verses is “Be still and know that I am God.” Richard Rohr does a talk that he speaks this slowly and then breaks this down. “Be still and know that I am God.”
“Be still and know that I am.”
“Be still and know.”
“Be still.”
“Be.”
I just love that! Hugs to you, my friend. Thank you again for sharing.
