Small Steps, Big Changes
There’s something nice about change. Sometimes it’s because it makes us more aware of what it is we’re changing from and more intentional about what we’re changing to. Kind of a mindfulness thing. My current change is to move my office from the bedroom at the end of our hallway into an open section without a door off that hallway. We’ve been in the house for a year and haven’t been satisfied with what to do with the space. I’ve been calling the space Middle Earth, for lack of a better name. Now, I call it my office.
In my previous office, I was away from any action, any noise. I could close my door to really concentrate on my work. What I’ve come to realize is that it demotivated me from working. I felt boxed in, restless. I often found myself walking down the hall to see what Ray was up to or to just get up and move. As of this week, my desk sits in front of a window. I look out at the backyard and the lilac tree that sits right in front of me. I’m excited for when it will bloom this Spring, and I’ll open my window to take in its fragrance. I can also see the garage door and know when Ray is coming or going and when it’s a good time to take a break together.
It’s a simple change, a little step. I am confident it will make a big difference in supporting my work goals. I classify it under “Small steps which lead to big changes in 2025.”
